We have experienced some frightful weather this winter season! And while this may cause some of us inconvenience, those that struggle to make ends meet through this time of year have even more challenges as icy roads make it impossible to get to work, schools close and kids are home so even if you can get to work, there’s the issue of extra expense for child care. Utilities, food and pretty much every basic need seem to be just out of reach.
Our local food bank, SnowCap Community Charities is an organization that steps up in times such as these to throw a life line to these families that are holding on by a thread. But unfortunately, this frightful weather has impacted them as well. Many crucial fundraising events, such as the annual Christmas Breakfast and Fill-A-Bag Burgerville Night where they give a percentage of their sales to SnowCap, were cancelled or not attended as people just couldn’t get there. Food barrels at the Grotto and throughout east county did not fill up as well as expected as the weather closed many businesses and shoppers stayed home and icy days left volunteers unable to do some scheduled pick-ups from grocery stores.
So, that being said if you’re looking for an opportunity to help those less fortunate get through these next few months, please go to www.SnowCap.org and click on the Fill-A-Bag donation button. We have one week left for the Fill-A-Bag food drive, which is one of the biggest supporting fundraisers of the year for SnowCap, but this nasty weather has really put a dent in what is normally a huge help for them. You can bring your food donations to Gresham Ford, Riverview Community Bank or the Gresham Outlook.
Together, we make things better!! Let’s make this next week one for the record books for Fill-A-Bag!
